Our self catering cottages are just a short walk to the foot of Screel Hill, you can see it in the background of the image at the top of this page. It is renowned for it's viewpoints across the spectacular Solway Coast as you can see in the square image to the left. There is a circular walk of about 3.5 miles. Gelston Lodge Self Catering Cottages are 5 miles from Castle Douglas, 8 miles from Kirkcudbright, 2 miles from Red Haven Beach and at the foot of Screel hill at the heart of Dumfries and Galloway.

Ideally situated in a haven for wildlife, migratory barnacle geese arrive in their thousands from the srctic and spend the winter in the nearby Solway coastal salt marshes, whilst red kites soar above the craggy hills. The sprawling forests and lochs of Dumfries and Galloway are home for many of the areas birds and animals including red squirrels, roe deer, badgers and buzzards.
